Viewed as one of the finest zoological institutions in the U.S. and a proud accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, Zoo Atlanta has a mission to inspire value and preservation of wildlife through a unique mix of education and outdoor family experiences. From well-known native wildlife to critically endangered species on the brink of extinction, the Zoo offers memorable close encounters with more than 1,000 animals from around the world.
1. Views: Lot's of animals you won't see anywhere else.
2. Cost: If you have a library card, you can check out a family pass at Georgia's public libraries. The pass is available at participating branches in all 159 counties. This pass gets you free admission to Zoo Atlanta for a family of four. This is only Mon. thru Friday. Military personal are free. otherwise Adult (12+) is $26.99 Children 3-11 are $20.99 and children 2 and under are free. Seniors (65+) are $20.99 Parking is 3.00 per hours or 12.00 for the day. I think 3 hours is plenty of time to see everything but if you have kids I'd recommend the daily rate.
3. Bathrooms: They are everywhere throughout the zoo.
4. How long is the hike?: I did about 4 miles in three hours and didn't hurry anywhere.
5. Gift Shop: Lots of shirts, water bottles, kids items, post cards etc. available.
6. Wheelchair and stroller access?: Yes very flat and all paved.
7. Maps and markers: The maps are available on line or where you pay to get in. Maps are also found throughout the park with the you are here buttons and great signage. They were very helpful.
8. Kid and dog friendly?: No dogs but of course very kid friendly. They have Lego animals throughout the park and several play grounds, a splash pad and a train that goes in a loop around the zoo.
9. Was there a uniqueness about the park: Yes
10. Was it worthwhile?: Yes. It was fun but when I went in July many animals were sleeping and not active.
