This parks rating is 9 out of 10 stars It would have gotten a 10 if it had a bathroom open.
The good, the bad, and the buggy, a short review of the park.
The good things about this park is that the trail is well maintained and it's great for bird watching.
The bad things about this park is when I went the visitor center or at least I guess that what is was, was not open and hours were not posted. Also because that was closed the park had no bathrooms although there was a Pike's Nursery across the street that had a very nice bathroom.
The buggy I’m a bug’s favorite chew toy so how much did they love me? I didn't get any bites but it's still early for bugs although some come out anytime including winter.
What Kind of Park is this? Does this park have a walking trail or hiking trail or is it more of a playground, ball field or Rec Center? This is a nature center with a walking trail/boardwalk that circles around the river.
1. The Parks views: The park has nice views of the river and forest and you are sure to see a variety of wild animals such as birds, turtles, butterflies and lizard's/skinks.
2. The Parks cost: Free
3. The Parks bathrooms: None were available when I went but the Pike's Nursery across the street had a nice one and you could get a nice plant for your home or garden as a souvenir.
4. How long is the hike? 2,054 steps or .82 miles and about a 30 minute walk
5. The parks shopping and souvenirs: Check out the Pike's Nursery across the street and get a plant or just take pictures
6. Does the park have wheelchair and stroller access? You could do it if your determined but parts of the path are natural and the board walk would be bumpy as well. Also the trail comes to a road and crosses the bridge.
7. How helpful are the parks maps and markers? Answer is they were really good and the trail was easy to follow BUT.. at either end where it crossed the river you came to a street and the sign at one was somewhat hidden and the other didn't have one that I could see. This wasn't a real problem if you took a picture of the map with your cell phone at the start or if you knew that if there was a bridge you needed to cross it.
8. Is the park kid and dog friendly? Yes but your dog should be on a leash.
9. Is there good internet service? Yes
10. Was it worthwhile? If your down town in Atlanta and in the area then yes but, I don't like driving in down town and it wasn't any better (or worse) then other nature centers that may be closer to home.
