A short review of the park.

The good things about this park are that the trails are well marked and maintained and you get to see a lot of wildlife that you wouldn't usually get to enjoy. The bad thing about the park is that with wild animals and farm animals you are going to have some stinky manure. If you have a sensitive nose you might want to skip the animal enclosures and just explore the other trails in the park.

The Parks web page says: Dauset Trails Nature Center is a private, non-profit nature center located near Jackson, Georgia, United States. The nature center is open year-round, except for certain holidays. The trails offer beautiful, scenic experiences for hikers and mountain bike enthusiasts of all skill levels. Explore the ponds, creeks, wildlife, wildflower fields, wooded trails and nature center. Camping for groups available.

What Kind of Park is this?

This is a nature center.

This parks rating is out of stars

1. The Parks views: Beautiful ponds trails wildlife and flowers

2. The Parks cost: Free

3. The Parks bathrooms: Are nice and well maintained

4. How long is the hike? If you go to the web address it has a map with 3 trails measured out, or you can make your own trail up as I did. My trail took me to see all the animals and was about 2 miles. The web site for the park is - http://www.DausetTrails.com The trails on the map provided ready to print are: Beginner Route, 3.3 miles- Intermediate Route, 11.5 miles-and Advanced Route, 17.2 miles.

5. The parks shopping and souvenirs: The visitor center has some snacks and drinks as well as a drink vending machine outside. It also sells shirts, hats, koozies and some cute stickers.

6. Does the park have wheelchair and stroller access? It did to all the animal enclosures for both the wild animals and the farm area.

7. How helpful are the parks maps and markers? As good as any given by any park.

8. Is the park kid and dog friendly? It's very kid friendly but pets are not allowed. I'm sure barking dogs would upset the birds and foxes etc.

9. Is there good internet service? No

10. Was it worthwhile? Yes, My son loved feeding the turtles from the bridge.

Bonus Questions

11. What amenities did the park provide? Answer is Picnic tables, Playground, Wild animal enclosures for buffalo, deer, foxes, racoons etc. and a farm area for goats, pigs, horses, chickens etc. It also had a tree trail with a map where each tree had a information marker telling you what the tree was and how you could identify it. All the animal enclosures also had signs telling you about the animals. This could be a great learning experience for kids and adults alike.

12. Was there tent, cabin and RV camping? The web page says group camping is available. I would call the number for the park to find out more.

13. Places nearby to eat? The visitor center has some snacks but for a meal it's a bit of a drive to find something.

14. Was there a gas station nearby? Not the way I went.

15. How safe was the park? Very, but kids would need to be closely supervised because the park does have ponds and steams also the farm animals can bite or step on a foot or hand if a child wonders into a enclosure or pasture.

16. Is the park maintained well? Yes, it is very well maintained and all the animals are very healthy and get great care.

17. Is the trail or walking path at least a ¼ of a mile? Yes, you can make your walk or hike as long as 17+ miles or as short as you want.

18. What would I have brought or left behind if I hiked this trail again?

I would have brought Allergy medicine, Kleenex, Sunglasses, Lunch or trail mix, a drink and some hand sanitizer. I also wore the wrong shoes. They didn't really get dirty and my feet didn't hurt but the shoes I usually wear for walks are shoes that can get dirty or wet and I don't care so they would have me worry less about where I stepped.

19. How far is this from Atlanta? A little more then an hour drive.

20. Spirit Animal for the park? Is a red fox. The one today was very photogenic and just looked adorable.

The trails spirit animal is selected by any animal I see at the park or on my way to the park. I find that looking for the day’s spirit animal makes my hike more fun and reminds me to stop and enjoy the beauty of my journey.
