Laura's Park at Hays Mill Trailhead

Address: Hays Mill Park, 460 Hays Mill Rd, Carrollton, GA 30117 Hours: Open seven days a week from 7 AM to 9 PM.

The good the bad and the buggy. A short review of the park.

The good things about this park is that its paved the whole way and goes for long enough to get a really good hike in without going around multiple times. The bad things about this park is there isn't much of a view although it does have a river along much of the trail and quite a bit of it goes through the trees, trees and muddy river water is most of what you'll see. the buggy I’m a bugs favorite person to bite so on a scale of 1 meaning I didn’t get bitten to 10 meaning I was a mosquito, gnat etc. chew toy, this park is a 5. I did get some bites (it goes along the river and it had rained the day before so there were several standing puddles of water) however I didn't itch much after getting bitten so I guess it was just some gnats and I don't seem to get as much reaction from them. I forgot to put on bug spray so I think if I did I wouldn't have gotten any bites at all.

The Parks web page says: The Carrollton Green Belt is an 18-mile shared-use path designed for pedestrians and non-motorized users. The Carrollton Green Belt is the largest green-space and green-way conservation project that the City of Carrollton has undertaken. It is also the largest paved loop trail system in the state of Georgia.

What Kind of Park is this? Multi Use Paved Loop used for walking, Jogging or bikes etc.

1. The parks views:

Just the muddy river and trees, but I didn't go the whole way.

2. The Parks cost:

Free

3. The Parks bathrooms:

Clean and nice

4. How long is the hike?

The Carrollton greenbelt loop is 16.9 miles The Carrollton greenbelt West is 9.6 miles there and back. To use the all trails app use the trail names here. To get to the trail with bathroom and pic-nick area use address from park web page.

5. The parks shopping and souvenirs:

Nothing to do with the trail but there is a shopping center with a Publix etc. just off the trail.

6. Does the park have wheelchair and stroller access?

Yes it does

7. How helpful are the parks maps and markers?

You can use the all trails app for a map but the trail doesn't have any maps nor does the web page. However the trail is paved and well marked. There isn't much chance of getting lost but unless you can keep your all trails app running you have no idea where you are in relation to your car or anything else.

8. Is the park kid and dog friendly?

Yes but kids wouldn't have a lot to do but walk or bike unless you bring scavenger hunt pages or something.

9. Is there tent and RV camping?

This is more of a wet lands nature area with a multi use trail through it so no. No camping.

10. Was it worthwhile? Yes I didn't go the hole loop but I want to come back and do that.
