The good the bad and the buggy. A short review of the park.
The good things about this park it's all paved trail or boardwalk and wide enough for two bikes going different directions to pass with no trouble The bad things about this park is that it was hard to find the entrance. I ended up parking across from the middle school but later found out the best place to park would have been at the library where there are bathrooms (the only ones available) and air conditioning and a picnic gazebo outside. The library is one of the entrances to the trail , the best one in my opinion. The buggy I’m a bugs favorite person to bite so on a scale of 1 meaning I didn’t get bitten to 10 meaning I was a mosquito, gnat etc. chew toy, this park is about a 5-6. Just a lot of gnats or mosquitos.
The Parks web page says: One of the coolest things about living in Atlanta is that you’re never more than 10 to 15 minutes away from a hiking trail. You disappear into a wooded path for a moment, and the city ceases to exist.
Clayton County is south of the Atlanta perimeter, but Jonesboro is anything but quiet. Hard to tell, though, once you disappear into the green of Jesters Creek Trail.
What Kind of Park is this? Nature Preserve with boardwalk/paved walking and biking trail
1. The parks views:
beautiful wooded trail with benches along the way. It also includes some wetlands along the way.
2. The Parks cost:
Free
3. The Parks bathrooms:
There are bathrooms in the Library.
4. How long is the hike?
2.3 miles if you go to the right and back then the left and back. (The library entrance is in the middle of a out and back trail, so to get your 2 miles you have to go both ways)
5. The parks shopping and souvenirs:
None, but it's close to shopping and restaurants.
6. Does the park have wheelchair and stroller access?
Yes. There are some cracks in the pavement but they are easy to go around and the path is wide enough that you can easily do that.
7. How helpful are the parks maps and markers?
There is a map at the entrance at the library and the path is very wide and easy to follow. The trail also has post markers with numbers but they are to close together to be mile markers, however they would be good if you notice one when you are starting down the trail so you will know the answer to "are we there yet" and "how much further to the car" questions.
8. Is the park kid and dog friendly?
Yes. It doesn't have a play ground or dog clean up station, but the entrance has a grassy area and there were no signs saying dogs weren't allowed. A couple of kids brought there skate boards and were having a good time when I was there. The trail has plenty of areas for a dog to lift a leg but as always if you bring your dog be sure to bring clean up bags and there were lots of trash cans next to benches all along the trail so you won't have to carry your bag too far.
9. Is there a uniqueness about the park?
No. Except that it was a boardwalk, it was your average walk thru the woods
10. Was it worthwhile? Yes, I will be back.
