The good the bad and the buggy. A short review of the park.
The good things about this park is that the trail was really well maintained and the visitors center had a lot of good stuff to check out. The coke and ice cream was perfect after the hike. The bad things about this park is that it really didn't have anything unique about it. It had a nice lake for fishing or water sports but that was it. the buggy I’m a bugs favorite person to bite so how much did they like me? I forgot the bug spray and still didn't get bites so that was nice.
The Parks web page says: This popular park on Lake Allatoona is ideal for swimming, water skiing and fishing. Visitors can bring their own boats or rent from nearby marinas. A sand swimming beach is nestled in a cove and surrounded by trees, providing a great place to cool off during summer. Picnic shelters and group shelters may be rented for meetings, parties, reunions and other celebrations.
Red Top Mountain is also a hiker’s haven. More than 15 miles of trails wind through the forested park, providing opportunities for exercise and nature photography. A short, paved trail behind the park office is suitable for wheelchairs and strollers, welcoming guests to explore a reconstructed 1860s homestead.
Named for the soil’s rich red color caused by high iron-ore content, Red Top Mountain was once an important mining area.
What Kind of Park is this? Answer is State Park
1. The parks views:
The lake and forest
2. The Parks cost:
$5.00 parking fee or yearly parking pass
3. The Parks bathrooms:
They have a nice bathroom at both the visitors center and the trading post and also at the camping areas.
4. How long is the hike?
Our hike was about five miles
5. The parks shopping and souvenirs:
You can shop at the visitors center or the trading post.
6. Does the park have wheelchair and stroller access?
There is a short, paved trail behind the park office that is suitable for wheelchairs and strollers. The trail we went on could probably be managed with a good stroller or wheelchair but it is a nature path, meaning it has roots and rocks and ruts along the way that would make the going tough but not impossible.
7. How helpful are the parks maps and markers?
They were pretty good. You might have to look down the trail on some areas where the trail split to find the tree markers, but if your looking they are there.
8. Is the park kid and dog friendly?
Yes.
9. Is there a uniqueness about the park?
No
10. Was it worthwhile? Yes
