The good, the bad, and the buggy, a short review of the park.
The good things about this park is that the pond is really nice if you can find it.
The bad things about this park is that it isn't maintained so there was a huge tree across the trail that you had to climb over, a bush covering the top part of the trail that you had to almost crawl under and a stream that you had to cross that had so few rocks and loose bricks to help you get across that it was a real challenge to keep your shoes wet. Also watch out for spider webs and thorn bushes across the trail. Also the start of the trail was really hard to find.
The buggy I’m a bug’s favorite chew toy so how much did they love me? A bit, probably 6 of 10 if I were to rate it. I didn't have any itching after I left but the start of the trail had a bulletin board that cautioned hikers to use bug spray to prevent ticks.
What Kind of Park is this? This is a land trust nature area behind the White Water High School football stadium.
1. The Parks views: The best view was of the pond or wet lands area. There were also some nice flowers along the way and lots of dragonflys near and over the pond.
2. The Parks cost: Free
3. The Parks bathrooms: They didn't have any
4. How long is the hike? About 4000 steps or 1 1/2 mile loop if your up for the adventure.
5. The parks shopping and souvenirs: None
6. Does the park have wheelchair and stroller access? Noo!! It almost has no access for those of us who can walk. You need water proff shoes, a walking stick to get rid of spider webs and be ready to climb over a huge fallen tree.
7. How helpful are the parks maps and markers? Well, except for the part where you go thru an old shed to find the trail on the other side (no signage to tell you to) the trail is marked pretty well considering how badly kept parts of it are. There were no maps at the trail entrance or anywhere else. Still, I found my way and I get lost easy so I'm giving this a half star.
8. Is the park kid and dog friendly? Um, Well the web page says you can bring a dog on a leash and I brought mine. I had to lift him onto the log that was to low to go under and to high to jump over and the web page says this area was set up to help kids to learn about nature, so if your kids or dog (I wouldn't bring more then 1 dog) doesn't mind an adventure then sure. Go for it. If you have a dog make sure the flea collar is on!
9. Was there a uniqueness to the park? If you want a little wilderness survival skill test this is it! You can fish (with license) and try the wild raspberries growing along the trail. There is no fire pit, grill or camping here so if you catch fish you need a cooler to get them home.
10. Was it worthwhile? A big no. Unless you want to fish or test your back woods skills this is not for you.
Bonus Questions
11. What amenities did the park provide? None
12. Was there tent, cabin and RV camping? No
13. Places nearby to eat? Yes
14. Was there a gas station nearby? Yes
15. How safe was the park? Ah, yeah the little "stream" I crossed was muddy and had lots of bugs. There were spiderwebs across the trail and I felt there may be snakes and crocks around the pond - swamp - wetlands area so I didn't feel as safe as I usually do on hikes. Also because this area is closed when school is in session I had the place to myself so if I was hurt it would be awhile before anyone could (A) find the trail (B) find me and (C) get me out, so that wouldn't be real good.
16. Is the park maintained well? Absolutely not
17. Is there good internet service? Yes, so at least I could have called for help if I got hurt.
18. What would I have brought or left behind if I hiked this trail again? 1st I wouldn't go again, but if I did I'd bring water proof shoes, a walking stick and bug spray to reapply along the way. Also some water would have been nice but because there were no bathrooms that could have also been a problem.
19. How far is this from Atlanta? Answer is
20. Spirit Animal for the park? The dragonfly. I just found out that a dragonfly can eat Hundreds of mosquito's a day so It's really great that the area had them everywhere.
